NOTEWORTHY! Throughout yesterday, i spent time doing a threat analysis of our borders and investments as a country. What i discovered shocked me. Many countries in Africa has acquired capabilities that can strike our oil industry. Some like chad can hit us within 45 minutes. About 10 countries in Africa have acquired 4th generation fighter jets. The SU-30 multi-role fighter jets is on the inventory of several african country. Angola, sudan, uganda, ethiopia, algeria are a few of the countries who have them. Even the south africans have the swedish Gripens...a monster of the skies. I was shocked when i discovered that the chadians have ordered for MIG-29s multirole jets. I look at the Nigerian airforce and all i can see is the chinese F-7 chegdu fighter jets which are variants of the russian MIG 21s. What this means is that many countries have the capability to take out our airforce in air to air combat within 48 hours. These countries are not as rich as we are, yet they invest in security. Our military has done their threat assessments but the government feels no war is coming. They feel that no african country will dare attack us, they see everyone as their friends. The airforce requires planes such as the SUPER TUCANOES to fight boko haram. This are jets designed as counter-insurgency jets capbale of ground attacks. A unit costs about 14million dollars and we need about 12 of these planes to be able to counter subversive groups anywhere in the country. The Nigerian airforce has well trained pilots and technicians but they lack the tools needed to do an effective job. I am beginning to fear for my country, scared that if the situation is not remedied, smaller countries will take us for a ride.....during battles in the sky. These days..the sky is where the battle is being won. I rest my case. - Ifeanyi Ifebi Emmanuel.
