NOTIFICATION FROM CENTRAL IMA Dear Friends, We have received a complaint from the Students of GSVM Medical College of Kanpur (U.P) informing us about the brutal attack by the Samajwadi Party MLA, Shri Irfan Solanki and his supporters on 28th February, 2014 (photographs attached) In this regard, we had sent a letters to the Director General of Police UP, a copy of the same was also sent to Union Home/Health Minister, Govt. of India, Chief Minister/Health/Home Minister of UP and Superintendent of Police, Kanpur. Today a Press Conference was organized at IMA House, New Delhi (copy enclosed) apprising the media about the atrocity committed by the police and administrative authorities in Kanpur in which we have demanded for the following actions to be taken: Immediate revocation of all charges against the arrested medical students and assurance for their safe transit from the Jail to medical campus. Shri Irfan Solanki should immediately be arrested and FIR should be lodged on attempted murder, abduction illegal/ unauthorized use of force, assault on doctors on duty and damage to Govt. property. SSP, Shri Yashashvi Yadav should immediately be suspended from duty and FIR should be lodged on the above grounds. There should be a judicial enquiry into the incidence at the level of working or retired judge. All cases against agitating doctors and students should be withdrawn. In future to prevent any such incident, proper security of doctors both Govt. & Private should be ensured. There should be adequate compensation for the physical, psychological and economical losses occurred to the medical students and doctors. Unconditional written apology by all the administrative and political personnel responsible for maintenance of law & order and assurance of human rights. IMA has requested the Govt. to take suitable remedial measures in this regard within 48 hours i.e. 4th & 5th March, 2014. During these 48 hours, you please sensitize your members for the followings: To wear black badges in protest and showing their solidarity for upholding the cause of maintenance of basic human and constitutional rights. Arrange for Candle March in your state/local branches to apprise the public about the atrocity committed by the police and administrative authorities in Kanpur. Arrange Dharna in front of the Administrative offices of your State/local branches. If the demands of Kanpur Medicos are not met within 48 hours, IMA will call for a one day nationwide token strike on 6th March, 2014 to express its anguish on such incidents; to start with OPDs will remain close. Please ensure that all emergency services will remain functional.
