NOVEMBER 13 WALMART PROTEST From Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice in Los Angeles: Breaking News: Walmart fires three workers ahead of Wednesdays strike – workers more committed than ever! Walmart workers have been calling on the Waltons to publicly commit to pay $15 an hour and provide full-time hours – but, as we know, Walmart will do anything to try to silence them – even if it means breaking the law. Just last week, three brave Latino leaders in a store in Pico Rivera, CA were fired by Walmart. One of the workers, Evelin Cruz, had just posted this on her Facebook page the day before: We cant pay our bills, but we can STRIKE against Walmarts illegal retaliation. I am ready to strike! She was fired the next day. But at a meeting right after the firings, leaders at her store and at stores throughout LA refused to be intimidated. Evelin will be out there on Thursday with her co-workers and will continue fighting for justice for all Walmart workers.
