NOVEMBER 24, 2013 Fifty eight Nigerian professionals working under the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/ Chevron Joint Venture have undergone a special training session in the local content operation with the aim of boosting capacity in the oil and gas industry. Chevron Nigeria Limited, which sponsored the training, said it was meant to boost local content operation in the industry. The Chairman/Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Andrew Fawthrop, in his remark during the graduation ceremony at the TCC Ogere on Friday, said, the training was a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the Nigerian Content Development policy. He said, “We strongly believe in building local capacity and this will continue to reflect in the output of our graduating trainees. Our actions are a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to the Federal Government’s Nigerian Content Development policy.” Fawthrop, who was represented by Mrs. Yinka Shokoya, said the 58 newly trained technicians had been prepared to contribute immensely to the development of the oil and gas industry. He said the new batch of 58 trainees had acquired enough and were capable of competing against the best experts working in any part of the world. With the 58 newly graduated technicians, the CNL boss said the number of technicians trained at the Ogere facility under the O&M training scheme would become 396; adding that 337 of the workers were currently working with Chevron with the others being engaged by the CNL contractors. Fawthrop said, “The 58 trainees will be joining the 396 O&M Ogere alumni from inception to date. We are proud to say currently, 377 Ogere alumni are working in Chevron while others are employed by the CNL contractors, and other institutions. Another 101 trainees will be graduating in Q1, 2014 and we are quite pleased that the trainees that graduated meet and exceed the high expectations of the industry.” The CNL boss recalled, “In 2006, Chevron Nigeria Limited set out to organise the Operations and Maintenance training scheme to enable Nigerian young men and women whose talent will be nurtured to grow and create a lasting legacy for years to come. “All this was way before the NCD and the NOGIC Acts, and we had no doubt that it is going to be a success and a value adding proposition. We also appreciate the strength of our collaboration with the Cegelec Prime Atlantic Nigeria Limited who execute Chevron O&M training programme initiatives safely at the highest standards and provide opportunities to many Nigerian graduates to get specialised training.” The trainees, he said, were also taught instrumentation, adding that the knowledge would enable them to diagnose any system fault on an oil platform. Others areas where the trainees acquired practical knowledge included industrial lighting and motor control system, mechanical section and the HSE. Contact: editor@punchng
