NOW AUGUST 5, 2013 Majdalani condemns "sectarian imbalance" in Health Ministry appointments Parliamentary Health Committee chief MP Atef Majdalani on Monday said that there was "sectarian iMbalance" in the appointment of 28 doctors as new inspectors. In a statement issued by his press office, Majdalani pointed out that the overwhelming majority of the newly appointed inspectors were Shiites. “Besides the flagrant unbalance in the sectarian distribution, the appointments came without a real need to appoint new doctors as inspectors in the current period, which suggests that this was just a deal that reflects chaos in managing public funds,” the statement read. “We call on health minister [Ali Hassan Khalil] to cancel this deal, and if it turned out that – contrary to our information – the new appointments were needed, the minister is asked to correct the sectarian unbalance,” it added. However, Majdalani did not openly accuse Khalil, saying that the minister must have “made the mistake unintentionally.” “From what we know about the minister’s personality, we rule out that what happened was intentional. It might have happened without his knowledge, or unintentionally.
