NOW NOVEMBER 29, 2013 Ain al-Hilweh official denies Islamist recruitment in camp BEIRUT - A top Ain al-Hilweh Islamist official denied a media report that Al-Qaeda-linked groups were recruiting and training young men from the Palestinian refugee camp. “There is a campaign against the Ain al-Hilweh camp by trying to link it to every security incident taking place in Lebanon” Jihadist Islamist Movement chief Jamal Khattab told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper. Al-Joumhouria newspaper reported Thursday that the Al-Qaeda-lined Al-Nusra Front and Abdullah Azzam Brigades had launched an unprecedented recruitment campaign in the Sidon refugeee camp. “From where did those alleged [Al-Qaeda recruiters] come to Ain al-Hilweh? How did they cross the checkpoints before they entered it?” Khattab asked. The Islamist added that Al-Joumhourias Thursday report was “completely unfounded, and is no more than an unjust accusation against the camp.” Khattab also denied reports that Sunni cleric Ahmad al-Assir had entered the camp. “All that has been said about Assir leaving Ain al-Hilweh are rumors, because Sheikh Assir did not enter the camp in the first place. https://now.mmedia.me/lb/en/lebanonnews/523139-ain-al-hilweh-official-denies-islamist-recruitment-in-camp
