NPP General Secretary under fire Monday 18th August , 2014 6:55 am Kwabena Agyapong is General Secretary of the NPP Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Chairmen for the Northern and Upper East Regions have called for the immediate termination of the recent appointments made by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. They also want Perry Okudjeto reinstated as the party’s Acting Communications Director. The NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong subsequent to his appointment of Deputy national communication Directors directed the party’s Acting Communications Director, Perry Okudjeto to proceed on compulsory leave. Kwabena Agyepong’s action has incurred the wrath of outspoken Daniel Bugri Naabu and Adams Mahama who took a swipe at him (Kwabena). At a joint news conference in Tamale, the two NPP regional Chairmen claimed the NPP General Secretary’s conduct was a clear violation of the party’s constitution in relation to the appointment of officers at the national secretariat. They implied Kwabena Agyepong was managing the party like his private business for which reason he should be called to order. Daniel Bugri Naabu in particular insinuated that Kwabena Agyepong was damaging the NPP’s electoral victory ahead of the 2016 polls. He cautioned the NPP chief scribe against any machinations which are likely to keep the party in opposition beyond 2016. Bugri Naabu fumed, “We are not going to allow Kwabena Agyepong to destroy our party: he knows what he is doing and he is trying to create confusion in the party and we will not sit down and allow the party to collapse at this time of the day.” The Northern Regional NPP Chairman alleged, “I believe that he is been financed by NDC, therefore if he wants to go to NDC alone he should go ahead: we don’t want that, we are not ready to support someone who will go and take money from the NDC and come to destroy our party.” Daniel Bugri Naabu advised Kwabena Agyepong to emulate the exemplary leadership of his predecessors. Buttressing Daniel Bugri Naabu’s standpoint, the NPP Upper East Regional, Adam Mahama advised Kwabena Agyepong to consider his decision by nullifying his earlier appointments. He remarked, “When I heard about this appointment, I was so disappointed about our General Secretary and this is unacceptable: we don’t even have communication directors why rushing to appoint deputy communication directors.” He admonished the NPP national leadership to bring Kwabena Agyepong back on track in line with the party’s constitution. “I want to use this opportunity to call the national executives especially Kwabena Agyepong to order, what he is doing is unacceptable.” Adams Mahama said no amount of intimidation will coerce the party’s 10 regional Chairmen to change their mind of choosing the right candidate to lead the party in 2016. “I know they are just doing this to destroy the upcoming election and I want to tell all NPP members and Ghanaians that all the 10 regional Chairmen are solid and united” He challenged Kwabena Agyepong to shift his attention to uniting the party rather than creating confusion. “All what we need to do in this party is unity.” By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah/citifmonline/ Ghana
