Contact Maeve Sheehan, HR Administrator, [email protected] Title: Housekeeper Classification: Part-time (hourly, non-exempt) This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining two museums, Rough Point and Whitehorne House and requires an elementary knowledge of curatorial practices in the handling of museum objects and the need to track locations of all artifacts. Special practices and techniques can be learned on the job. Spring, summer and fall work tends to focus on cleaning and care of public areas, bathrooms and offices, while winter work involves large scale cleaning of chandeliers, metal objects, woodwork, floors and textile items. Specific Responsibilities: • Clean rooms, hallways, restrooms, elevators, stairways and utility areas • Vacuum rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies • Empty wastebaskets and transport trash and recyclable materials to disposal areas • Sweep, scrub, wax and/or polish floors as required using dust mops, wet mops and/or buffing machines • Dust and polish furniture and fixtures • Keep housekeeping equipment and material storage areas well stocked and tidy • Clean doorways, steps and porches • Maintain a small group of indoor plants year-round, with the assistance of our gardeners • Replace light bulbs • Replenish supplies such as paper goods and bathroom items • Seasonally place and remove dust covers on furniture and store small objects in coordination with the curatorial department Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent • Prior housekeeping experience • Flexibility in handling a variety of tasks • Organize work under unexpected circumstances • Must be able to work independently and follow instructions regarding priorities of tasks • Positive attitude • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to lift and carry at least forty pounds and climb and work from a high ladder
