NSA Prism program taps in to user data of Apple, Google and others While government has a key role to play in protecting its citizens, and given the fact that existing controls for online privacy are sub-optimal, I robustly assert that true security can only be achieved under a broader umbrella of trust and the preservation of fundamental rights. However, this degree of data collection is in direct contradiction with the commitments that governments worldwide have made as it pertains to respect for the privacy and individual rights of human beings. Moreover, it appears that large Internet companies like Apple and Google are now engaging in double speak as it pertains to their position on online security and privacy.
