NSC Throws Weight Behind Akanu Ibiam Super Cup Salifu Usman — July 17, 2014 The National Sports Commission (NSC) has assured of its commitment towards ensuring successful organisation and hosting of the Ezeogo Dr Akanu Ibiam Super Cup U-18 male football tournament, saying it would enhance talents discovering and sports development. Sports Minister and chairman National Sports Commission, Dr Tammy Danagogo gave the assurance during the official unveiling of the trophies in Abuja. The minister, represented by the Director Grassroots Sports Development, Alhassan Yakmut said NSC would ensure that only the players within the age limit participate in the competition designed to honour the former governor of the Eastern Region, Ezeogo Dr Akanu Ibiam. “We are engaging the services of Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) to handle the screening of the players for the games and we will be thorough because we want to ensure only the right players participate in the competition. Our appeal to the participating states is for them to ensure that they eschew cheating which might defeat the essence of the games,” he said. Speaking further, he described the tournament as a standard platform for youths of the old Eastern Region states to showcase themselves, stating that the talents will be harness for national development. “NSC and its agency, NFF will harness all the talents that will be unveil during the tournament for national teams.” The event which has also received full endorsement of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the government of Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and River States.
