After being spotted, Chief Inspector Damon Cox then tried to induce a supermarket employee not to report him for thieving, Downing Centre Local Court heard today. Cox (above) did not enter pleas to charges of larceny and corruptly receive a benefit this morning. Magistrate Gregory Grogin blasted Cox’s lawyer for his client’s non-appearance inside the courtroom due to a fear of “media” interest. “What’s the secrecy?” Mr Grogin asked, with the lawyer replying it was “his rank.” Documents before the court allege Cox, 48, stole $19.48 worth of goods from the Blaxland IGA - a packet of cheese, four cubes of rat poison and two chocolate bars.
