#NSW #Fire #Corp Update: Watch and Act - Linksview Road Fire, Springwood (Blue Mountains) 20/10/13 17:39 Posted: 20/10/2013 Conditions have eased in the Linksview Road and Springwood areas and this fire has been downgraded to Watch and Act. Nearly 300 firefighters are consolidating containment lines in milder conditions today. Current Situation The Linksview Road Fire has burnt through nearly 2500 hectares of bush land; damaging and destroying a significant number of properties. This morning firefighters will be working in the areas of Mount Riverview, Winmallee, Springwood, Faulconsbridge, Valley Heights, Sun Valley and Warrimoo. Fire activity is expected in these areas today. Yesterday, NSW Health evacuated Springwood Hospital as a precaution. 24 patients were transferred to Nepean Private Hospital where they will remain until further notice. Damage Assessment – Building Impact Analysis House (Habitable Dwelling) – 109 damaged, 193 destroyed Outbuilding (Shed, Business etc) – 0 damaged, 0 destroyed Advice There is thick smoke in the area. Be alert to burning embers. Put out any spot fires which start where you are. Conditions may be changing. Continue to monitor the situation and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. Evacuation Centres Evacuation Centres have been established at: Springwood Sports Club, 83 Macquarie Road, Springwood is OPEN. Lithgow Workers Club, 3-7 Tank Street, Lithgow is OPEN. Road Closures Due to bush fire activity there are numerous road closures. Please also be aware that road closures may occur without notice. These closures will continue to be assessed across the day, however, there is no forecast as to when these roads will reopen. Motorists are urged to avoid all bushfire affected areas. Disaster Welfare Assistance Line (1800 018 444) provides information about disaster relief grants for content and structural repairs, available to low income earners with no insurance.
