NSW Police are urging motorists to really stop and consider their ‘driver safety’ to ensure they arrive safely after seven people were killed in road crashes yesterday (Monday 26 August 2013). Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, Commander of Traffic and Highway Patrol, said that these crashes are a real wake-up call to all drivers to consider the impact of their actions on our roads. “We want motorists to drive in a manner that ensures they arrive safely at their destinations. “Driver safety means being in control and fully aware of your surroundings when behind the wheel - sticking to the speed limit, not drinking and not being distracted by mobile phones. “People need to stop and think about it before heading out - drivers don’t want their actions to be responsible for the loss of their life or another’s in a tragic crash. “The consequences of not driving safely on the road are far-reaching, and impact not only the driver but the families and friends of those involved,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
