NURIOOTPA BOWLING CLUB Night Tigers bowls is on again and being enjoyed by around 60 bowlers every Tuesday evening. There were “touchers” aplenty this week leading to the chocolates running out before the conclusion of the second half! The evening’s winners were “Holy Rollers” with a score of 51 + 16 shots. Close behind, in second place, were “Gothic Ghost Busters”, followed by “Just a Tribute”. The Encouragement Award went to “Dry Pale Turkeys”. New players are always welcome; you don’t need to be in a team. Thursday morning pennants matched our Ladies Black side against Tanunda White while the Golden girls met Lyndoch’s Golds. The Blacks, led home by Heather Robert’s four, had a 10 shot win while the Golds were unable to find form, going down by a handful with Nat Fyfe scraping home by the barest of margins to salvage a couple of points. On Thursday afternoon, only two things proved favourable for the Tigers; the first being the glorious Spring weather and the second, a win to the Golds! Playing Kapunda Red on our home turf, the Golds managed a convincing, all rinks up, win, with Wayne Williams’ trio proving the more dominant, downing Jack Trotta’s troops by 22 to 11. The Blacks, also at home to Lyndoch Blue, were not quite good enough, despite wins to both Trevor Billing and Roger Mattschoss, losing by 4 shots; mainly due to a courageous but disastrous decision by the fill-in Blacks skipper, who does not wish his identity to be revealed, on the final end, which resulted in a 5 shot drop! Away against Lyndoch Gold, the Blues run of outs continued with all three rinks down and one in particular, extremely down, by some 27 shots. Although unsuccessful skipper, Ron Turnbull, was later heard in the Den muttering about the advisability of euthanasia, it seems his rink will live to fight another day! The Greens went over the hills to Kapunda, only to hand the host’s Blacks their second win of the year, both by courtesy of the Tigers! While Albie Wilkinson managed an 8 shot winning result, neither Ian Klaebe nor Phil Gould were able to overcome the home side advantage, succumbing to Colin Hamper and Bill Phillips by 3 and 13 respectively. It was, however, a beautiful burst of Spring weather! Things heated up on Saturday! The 3Fs travelled south to Tanunda to bring home the bacon in a convincing manner. While Adam Forbes and Geoff Langley had close wins and Ron Turnbull went down by just 5 shots, Stu Allen enjoyed a convincing, 14 shot victory on the carpet. It must be noted that, much to the satisfaction of club statistician, Rod Short, Geoff Langley’s rink of Lachlan Fuss, Trevor Billing and Rob Grope scored an Eight during the course of their match against Tony Edwards. At home, the Div 2 Green Machine continued on its unbeaten road to the finals by overcoming Freeling, by 91 to 63, with both Ian Klaebe and Kevin North scoring convincing wins. Also at home, but nowhere nearly as successful, The Blacks dropped their guard against Angaston Blue, going down by 12, with David Quodling being the only winning skipper for the Tigers. The Golden Twos took off for the Kapunda hanger with high hopes only to return to Tigerland with long faces, having been handed a 41 shot bombardment by the Bombers. Pauline Collyer’s crew’s 7 shot win against Jack Trotta’s flight power was the only result on the credit side of the Tiger ledger! Struggling for numbers due to sickness, family commitments and other assorted reasons, both Div 3 sides fell by the wayside. Utilising several last- minute “fill-ins”, the Blacks lost to Lyndoch by 46 and a bit shots while the Golds suffered a similar fate against Freeling, despite the valiant efforts of Shane Stewart, who managed a draw and a return to the winners’ circle by Roger Leske. Members are reminded that the Huge Christmas Raffle committee is still collecting prizes at the Den. As ticket books have been distributed, it would make sense to add something to the collection that you would like to win! In the words of club philosopher, Rod Short, “you only get out of life (or, in this case, raffles) that which you put in!” OLD AND BOWLED
