#NUTSHELL – May 8th — SINGLES REDUCE THE RISK – Ephesians 5:14-16: We have all observed that marriage can be a huge risk with statistics that at their best gives a 60% success rate of keeping the marriage together. The risk can be reduced by evaluating the relationship with key marriageability traits that if active in your life whether single or married would help to build a lasting relationship. Adaptability and Flexibility: the person can adjust to change with minimum of rigidity. How adaptable and flexible do you believe yourself to be? What about your fiancé? Empathy: the ability to be sensitive to the needs, hurts and desires of others feeling with them and experiencing their world from their perspective. On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your level of empathy, your fiancés level. The Ability to Work Through Problems: to work together toward solutions rather than run from, ignore each other or give the silent treatment. When you have faced conflict in your relationship were you able to work it through? The Ability to Give and Receive Love: having behavior, actions and attitudes that convey love in meaningful manner. In what practical ways has your fiancé shown his/her love for you? How have you shown yours? Emotional Stability: accepting one’s emotions and controlling them. Which of your emotions do you have difficulty in controlling? Have you discussed this with your fiancé? Which does he/she struggle with? Similar Family Backgrounds: the greater the difference, the greater the adjustment (e.g. economic, cultural, religious, etc). Why do think this trait is included in this list? Similarities of Interests, Likes, Dislikes, Friends, educational level, religion, etc. the better the potential for a good relationship. Which areas would you consider yourselves quite similar? Dissimilar? Good Communication Skills: the ability to share in such a way that the other person can understand and accept what is being said. Are you pleased with your communication?
