NZDUSD will be volatile this week in the lead up to Saturday’s general election. Later today documents sourced from NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden will be released that it is claimed will show the NZ government has been carrying out widespread surveillance on it citizens. However, bookmakers don’t seem to be too concerned and have the National Party government at $1.12 to retain power and the opposition labour party at $5.50 We have already seen weak data out of China over the weekend and this will impact on both NZD and AUD today. Wednesday sees the latest global dairy trade auction and then second quarter GDP on Thursday. Then there is the FOMC meeting. Meanwhile, pressure on NZDUSD will remain from last week’s Central Bank monetary policy statement and the treat of currency intervention.
