Nacho Update! Nacho has been at Cesar Millans Dog Psychology - TopicsExpress

Nacho Update! Nacho has been at Cesar Millans Dog Psychology Center since September 10th, 2014. We originally thought Nacho, who was found chained to a fence and left for dead after being mauled, was reacting with a fight or flight reaction to other dogs. If another dog would enter his space he would turn towards aggression almost immediately. Since spending time at the DPC and being further evaluated it appears our poor baby boy was encouraged to be aggressive with other dogs, Nacho was being trained to fight. Most times when a dog is focused on something you can easily snap them out with correction but not Nacho. The evaluation concluded with a horrifying result, whoever had Nacho would have most likely beaten him to make him behave aggressively. The more you interacted while he was In the zone the more aggressive he would become. It seems that he believed that was how to please his people as he always checked in with his trainers to solicit praise afterward. The fear of being hurt by a human was replacing the fear of being harmed by another dog. My heart broke when I received the news. My sweet loving boy Nacho, who could ever hurt you. With all the love you have for people, someone intentionally trained you to receive harm from another dog and inflict it. I hate dog fighters, I hate animal abusers, it is incredibly hard not to just cast out my regard for the entire human race when I hear things like this. Whos could ever do this? They are a person just like I am and nothing in this world would drive me to be that heartless, it is truly hard to understand. The leading trainers at the DPC reviewed the situation and decided to start Nacho off from the beginning with Puppy 101. With repeated positive social interaction from something as harmless as a puppy Nacho is quickly learning that he will get praise and attention he so desperately wants. His progress is coming along amazingly, he has now begun to exhibit the right kind of behavior, playful and loving behavior. We are very impressed with the way his training is progressing and thrilled that our very own head trainer, Lisa Porter, has taken a position at the DPC and will be assisting in his rehabilitation. -Jackie
