Naiyama Bibi, 62, lives in India’s Kulgum district. When the floods hit Chambgund village, her family home was washed away. Naiyama’s paddy field is now filled with sand and boulders, the crop destroyed. She has also lost her small orchard of apple trees, which provided an income for the family. She now faces the huge task of rebuilding her home and her livelihood. With winter approaching, it is a daunting prospect – and the snow will come soon. However, Naiyama is optimistic that help will come. “God will not leave His beloved people in their distress,” she said. Islamic Relief is working with a local partner in India, and is also on the ground in Pakistan, to provide vital aid to vulnerable people like Naiyama.
