Naldurg, Dist Osmanabad, Maharashtra. Indias most spectacular and perhaps least recognised fort. The fortifications consists of two forts one Bahamani and one Adilshahi joined across a river and seamlessly creating an single fortification with a beautiful reservoir inbetween. As though this is not enough the entire fortification has 118 bastions and in the case of the Adilshahi addition almost no two bastions are alike. The most sensational is perhaps the Nav-Buruz a bastion made of 8 slim bastions clubbed togethere. The fort at a serious glance appears to be a fort builders catalogue. And as though this isnt enough it has a central sentinel of a bastion/tower called the Upli Buruz giving cannons atop it a 270 degree angle of fire. The cherry on the cake and perhaps the most unique feature is the Jal Mahal: a palace built into the walls of the dam. Where the slipway waters pass over the Jharokha window in the monsoons.
