Namibia’s Floodlights Thrill Eagles -Players Ready To Face Artificial Grass By Sam O’Femi Fasetire Players of the Super Eagles have expressed satisfaction with information that they will play Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia under floodlights, with a verdict that it means they would not have to battle with sunny conditions during the encounter. While this week’s match will also be played on artificial grass at Sam Nujoma Stadium, Windhoek, SportsDay gathered from one of the Eagles’ officials that the players are excited that the conditions for the encounter will be mild and conducive, contrary to the difficulties they faced during last Wednesday’s game against Kenya., Although the Eagles still defeated The Harambee Stars by Ahmed Musa’s 81st minute clincher in Nairobi, the players complained about the sun and bumpy surface of the pitch at Moi International Stadium, Kasarani. The Eagles were met on arrival in Windhoek by the Nigerian ambassador to Namibia, Nathaniel Abiodun Olorunfemi and some senior embassy officials, alongside the host federation’s representative, after which the visiting delegation was led to their abode at Country Club Hotel in a serene environment, unlike the nosy environment that was arranged for them in Nairobi. Memories of the dire conditions in last week’s match have now led the Nigerian starts into a determined state of mind to make the best of playing on astro turf against Namibia, especially as the 8pm kick-off means they would have a cool atmosphere that is akin to what they experience while playing with their clubs in Europe. “It’s true that our players used to detest playing on astro turf, like the one at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos,” the official told SportsDay, “but the truth of the matter is that it will be better to play on artificial grass in Namibia, than face the same rough pitch conditions we saw in Nairobi. “At the same time, with the match starting at 8pm, someone light Brown Ideye will be very happy, because he really struggled during the match in Nairobi, and we are sure that he and the others will be happy to play after the sun has gone down.”
