Naoshima Meets the World!! This is, in my opinion, the best event of the year, but space will be limited to 13 Kochi JETs. HOWEVER, there are only 3 remaining spots after the people who have already signed up. Get on the list (comment below) as soon as possible. I’ll set up a wait list if you want to go, but are slow to the punch. Why I like this one so much: Naoshima has an advanced and experimental English program. The kids are fantastic and it’s an excellent chance to meet other JETs from our neighboring prefectures. Naoshima Island itself is beautiful and is, itself, a giant art project (google image it). What it is: In the morning they will have games and activities set up for you and the children. No prep necessary and they’re fun. In the afternoon you enjoy a free lunch with the kids before they take you on one of two adorable English language tours. One is to the main art museum; the other is to impressive art projects around the island. Best Part: They give you 5000 yen to cover travel costs (Ferry to Naoshima is 900 yen). Bonus: Last year we had a great time in Takamatsu (and eating the world-famous udon) the evening before and after. It’s entirely possible to make it to/from on the same day, but why would you do that? Details: When: 8am ferry on Saturday, November 29th. The event goes all day. Optional Accommodation: If desired, you can stay at the organizer’s (Calloum’s) house in Naoshima on Friday night and make party. He will give priority to Okayama and Kochi people for a place to crash. He is also willing to house people on the Saturday after the event, if you’d like. Last year some of us found an inexpensive hotel near the port. There were a lot of options well within a reasonable budget. Prep: “After you are on the ferry, your food, transport etc is all sorted. You only have to get on that ferry, and the rest of the day takes care of itself.” -Calloum If you want to go and stay with Callum, let me know and I’ll forward it on to him. We NEED drivers if anyone would like to go, and is willing to drive to Takamatsu, it would be a big help.
