Nasarawa Assembly May Impeach Al-Makura From Abuja ********************** Indications emerged yesterday that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has hatched plans to impeach Governor Tanko Al-Makura from Abuja. A credible source, who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, revealed the development to LEADERSHIP last night, saying that the lawmakers resorted to operating from Abuja to avoid distraction following public outcry by Nasarawa citizens against their plot to remove the governor. When reminded that the Supreme Court had ruled that a governor’s impeachment proceedings must be carried out in the state’s assembly complex and not otherwise, the source added: “All I can tell you is that the impeachment will be executed in Abuja for certain strategic reasons.” The Nasarawa lawmakers had on Monday, July 14, 2014, sat for 15 minutes and passed a resolution to serve an impeachment notice on the governor. It further directed the clerk of the assembly to serve the governor with the notice, directing that if he was unable to serve Al-Makura personally, he should do so through the media.
