Nasarawa warring communities sheathe swords- Nigerian Tribune EGGON and Alago communities of Nasarawa State, on Friday, agreed to live in peace and forget the communal crises between them and others in the area. The Eggon spokesman, Mr Ibrahim Jatau, made this known at a meeting with Alago and other tribes in Tudun Adabu, Obi Local Government Area of the state. “The security challenges facing our area, the state and some parts of the country have negatively affected the socio-economic development of the state and the country. “Without peace, no meaningful development can be achieved in any society. Peace is priceless and non-negotiable. “There is the need for us, the Eggon, Alago, Tiv and other tribes in this area, to reunite, irrespective of our ethnic, political and religious leanings, and embrace peace for development to be achieved for our benefit,” Jatau said. However, he identified envy, hatred, poverty, fear of domination, misinformation, lack of forgiveness and lack of respect for constituted authorities as the causes of the crises. Jatau commended Governor Tanko Al-Makura for his developmental strides, especially in the area of infrastructure and called for their sustenance. He appealed to the state government to extend its developmental programmes to their communities, saying that the communities lacked good road, potable water, health and educational facilities, among others. Jatau said the facilities, when provided, would not only improve on the standard of living of the people but would also boost economic activities of the state. Also speaking, Mr Solomon Chunku, a Tiv representative, described the crises in the communities and other parts of the country as “the handiwork of devil.” He, therefore, called on the people to pray for the return of peace in the country and urged them to support the current administration in the state to enable it succeed in moving the state forward.
