Natalie Styer of Pulaski, Lawrence County, received the first Open Horse Show Scholarship as part of activities on the first weekend of the Keystone International Livestock Exposition (KILE), held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. The award recognizes young equestrians who exhibit academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and a commitment to the success of the KILE Open Horse Show. A 2011 graduate of Wilmington Area High School, Styer grew up on a family horse farm and participated in horse programs through 4-H and FFA. She is a senior animal science major at the Pennsylvania State University, where she lives and works at the horse barns and is involved in CHAPS (Club for Horsemen at Penn State) and Block and Bridle. Styer assisted with the hunter division of the 2013 Open Horse Show at KILE and has helped with the Pennsylvania 4-H State Horse Show and other shows across the state. She will be co-manager of Penn State’s student-run Equine Showcase and Quarter Horse Sale next spring. The all-breed Open Horse Show featured English and Western pleasure, hunter, equitation, driving, jumper, trail, showmanship, barrel racing and pole bending classes in three rings.
