THIS IS WHY I DONT BELIEVE IN CHRISTMAS: No, Christmas is not - TopicsExpress

THIS IS WHY I DONT BELIEVE IN CHRISTMAS: No, Christmas is not for all who confess Christian faith. A lot of issues can be debated about Christmas and its origin, but I dont wish to go into that now. My issue concerns the importance of Christmas Day to believing Christians. I perceive that the Gospel we proclaim has a timeline. The Bible seems to hint about the same when it says that There is a time for everything [Eccl.3:1-8]. As such, the Gospel that we proclaim has to be appropriate. Therefore, in my view, the birthday of Jesus Christ is not the Gospel of the moment, His second coming is. My argument above may seem like a trivial issue until you read how Aquila and Priscilla reacted to Apollos teaching in Ephesus [Acts 18:24]. Apollo is described as a man who was mighty in the Scriptures. However, Apollo was teaching ERROR. He was teaching the baptism of John. Therefore, Aquila and Priscilla took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately [Acts 18:24-28]. I tend to believe that Apollo was still stuck in the prepare the way for the Messiah who is coming. However, things had progressed, in the sense that the Messiah had come, persecuted, killed, resurrected and taken up in Heaven. Therefore, his first coming was no longer an issue, but his second coming was. In the same manner, I think the birthday of Jesus Christ is not an important issue at the moment, but His second coming is, as I said earlier. If anything, we are not called to remember the birth of Jesus (at least, Jesus didnt recommend that to us), but His death and resurrection. Our Lord is no longer a baby, He is a King waiting to return for a second time. I received a lot of messages from friends last night and today, telling me that May Christ be born in your heart. I was tempted to reply to the senders that Christmas is foreign to me. As a matter of fact, Christ has been living in my heart since the day I knew the Truth. But I realized that would sound rude enough that they may lose the appetite for their Christmas meals. So, I decided to remain quiet. Now, without going into the controversies about whether Dec. 25 was the day Jesus was born (although I believe the date is not accurate), I think the bottom line is that thinking of Jesus as an infant rather than a King is a serious ERROR.
