The goal of the National Council for Development and International Solidarity, announced by President Hollande on March 1, 2013 at the Conferences on Development and International Solidarity, is to strengthen dialogue between all actors on development policy priorities, transparency and coherence issues, and public assistance resources. The council will bring together, at least twice a year, approximately 60 personalities grouped into 8 categories: associations, parliamentarians, trade unions, employers, economic players, elected representatives and local and regional authorities, academics and researchers, and international figures. France is notably spearheading plans for an international conference on biodiversity and climate change in the European overseas territories, due to take place from October 22 to 25, 2014, in Guadeloupe. It is also an active member of the International Coral Reef Initiative and works to ensure their protection within the framework of the French Coral Reef Initiative. Syria – Fight against impunity War crimes and crimes against humanity are being committed in Syria. The perpetrators of these crimes must not go unpunished. That’s why France will today submit for a vote at the UN Security Council a resolution referring the situation to the International Criminal Court. As Mr. Laurent Fabius reaffirmed in an article published today, the members of the international community must assume their responsibilities in the eyes of history and before the community of nations.
