National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 through October - TopicsExpress

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 through October 15. During this time, we have the opportunity to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans throughout our great community and nation. Each year, Americans observe this special time by celebrating the histories and cultures of fellow American citizens whose ancestry stems from Mexico, Spain, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The unique and vibrant history of the United States of America and its remarkable diversity are enriched by its Hispanic heritage. We can take pride in our citizens of Hispanic origin who represent a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. The observance was originally known as Hispanic Heritage Week. By 1988, the week increased to cover a 30-day period beginning on September 15. The date September 15 is important for its significance in five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua’s anniversary of independence all fall on this day. The 30-day period also includes September 16 and 18, which are Mexico and Chile’s independence days, respectively. The observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the long and important presence of Hispanic Americans. Our country has a rich history of diversity and inclusion of people from various nations. It is our recognition and celebration of cultures in observances such as National Hispanic Heritage Month that continue to make America a great nation.
