National Suicide Prevention Month Daily Update: “The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” -Douglas MacArthur Today is Sunday, September 14, 2014. On Friday night, the silent war claimed another Veterans’ life. Army Veteran Cederick Hill fell after a long battle against Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sadly, he is not alone. Some 5,610 Veterans have lost their lives to Suicide this year already. Meanwhile, our elected leaders talk about band-aid solutions to a sucking chest wound problem. The Veterans’ Administration has grossly mismanaged its resources for decades, neglecting the health and welfare of our Veterans while passing out bonuses to its leaders like Skittles. In 2012, the year the VA hospital in Pittsburgh, PA experienced an outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease – an outbreak that they still do not know exactly how many Veterans lost their lives to – the administrator of the hospital received thousands of dollars in bonuses – despite the fact that the CDC had warned him of the potential for an outbreak of this very disease since 2007! We do know for a fact that twenty-two (22) families every day are losing fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, sisters, brother, daughters, and sons to an unrecognized conflict against injuries the VA would rather deny exist than offer treatment for. The media has yet to acknowledge the extent of this silent war, yet they don’t hesitate to report on the numbers who have died from an epidemic in Africa. Ladies and gentlemen, this epidemic of Suicide within our Veteran ranks is in our front yard! Silent War Foundation was created to offer hope to those who feel hopelessly lost in a bureaucratic nightmare, a system so tangled and difficult even its own employees have to have help navigating it. Silent War Foundation offers a simple answer – we pair a Veteran or family member directly to a doctor and then pay for the treatment. Only one document is required – a DD214 to establish service. Done. This is why we are working to raise $10,000 this month – so that we can cover the cost of treatment and help start the healing our Veterans and their families need. Please go to silentwarfoundation.org today and make a donation. Together, we can win this war and save the lives of those who have already sacrificed so much. Thank you for your belief and your support.
