National Womens March Programme 29 August 2013 The African National Congress shall join the African National Congress Women`s League and other representatives of progressive women`s organisations in the National Women`s March tomorrow, 30 August 2013. The march, inspired by 100 years of women`s struggles and the 1956 women`s march against indignity and injustice by an oppressive regime, will bring together women from various parts of South Africa in solidarity with the women of the Western Cape Province which remains the last bastion of male supremacy, entrenching and promoting the triple oppression of women in gender, race and class terms. The Women`s Charter of 1994 sets out clearly the demands of South African women for effective equality. Chief amongst these that will be tabled before the Western Cape Provincial Government are: Gender parity and equal participation by women in the leadership and decision making structures of the social, economic and political life of the province Adequate and accessible social services in the home, health and education as women are primarily responsible for maintaining the household and community Urgent prioritisation of the education of African and Coloured child whose schools are shut down by the Provincial Government as it is mothers who bear the brunt of the Provincial Government`s ill-conceived actions Enforcement of adequate protection for all women and children against the racial and gender based violence that has become pervasive in the province Development of plans to raise awareness of gender issues within the Province and the capacitation and resourcing of civil society (which is no longer funded by the DA-government) to support and empower women Members of the media are invited to cover the programme which shall unfold as follows: Date: 30 August 2013 Arrival time: From 09h00 - 11h00 Meeting point: Keizergracht Street, Cape Town Programme Directors: ANC NEC Member, Cde Nomvula Mokonyane & ANCWL NEC Member, Cde Zodwa Magwaza 11h00 : Address by ANCWL Secretary-General, Cde Sisisi Tolashe 11h15 : Messages of Support 11h30 : March to the Provincial Legislature begins 12h30 : March arrives at the Provincial Legislature 12h45 : Welcome by ANC Provincial Chairperson, Cde Marius Fransman 12h50 : Main Address by ANC Deputy Secretary-General, Cde Jessie Duarte 13h00 : Handover of Memorandum, President of the ANCWL, Cde Angie Motshekga 13h15 : Departure Issued by Jackson Mthembu National Spokesperson African National Congress
