NationalMirror At last, NFF dissolved by ANDREW EKEJIUBA on Jul 6, 2014 Posted under: Highlights, Sports Congress dissolves NFF board, appoints new committees …new committee set up to conduct fresh election The Extra Ordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday in Abuja unanimously dissolved the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board and appointed new Electoral and Appeals Committees to handle its forthcoming election. In a communiqué read by Chief Obinna Ogba, Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, on behalf of 31 out of 44 members who came from the various states of the federation to Bolingo Hotels and Towers Abuja, venue of the Extra Ordinary General Assembly, to deliberate on recent developments around Nigeria football bemoaned the financial row involving the Super Eagles and the Maigari-led board at the Mundial in Brazil. They blamed the Maigari-led board for failing to resolve the matter which somehow dented the image of the country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The communiqué read as follows:“The Congress expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, in his personal capacity and the Federal Government in general, for total and unflinching support to the Nigeria Football Federation for the development of the Nigerian game. “Members of the NFF commended the players and officials of the Super Eagles for their impressive performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil. “Congress bemoaned the unfortunate incident of the international embarrassment caused the Nigerian nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, by failure of the Aminu Maigari-led NFF to fully and firmly resolve issues of finance with the Super Eagles ahead of the championship. “Congress accused the Maigari administration of shortchanging grassroots development by failure to regularly avail State Football Associations of annual grant, and abuse of NFF Statutes in its constitution of NFF Electoral Committee, by altering the list of persons approved by the Congress at the 2013 General Assembly in Warri, Delta State, and inaugurating a different Committee.” The communiqué also confirmed the election of a new NFF Electoral Committee and NFF Appeals Committee which were duly constituted by the Congress at the venue. The Electoral Committee are made up of, Barr. Jeriak Rowland (South South), Barr. Usman A. Usman (North West), Barr. Emeka Asogwa (South East), Mrs. Margareth Aku (North Central), Mr. Hassan Adamu (North East), Prof. Ademola Abass (South West), Barr. Chris Essien (South South) and Lawrence Katken (Secretary). The Electoral Appeals Committee which was also duly constituted yesterday by the NFF Congress includes, Barr. Effiong Oboho, Barr. Waribere Sonari, Dr. Isaac Akinloye, Mr. Thomas Awok, Mr. Simon Gyang as members and Barr. Queen Otarakpo as Secretary. Sunday Mirror also gathered that the Extra-Ordinary Congress unanimously endorsed the dissolution of the Aminu Maigari –led NFF Executive Committee, and immediate termination of the employment of all Management Staff. They also endorsed the dissolution of the Boards of the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women League and the Nigeria Nationwide League. The Secretaries are to take over the running of the Leagues and report to the Acting General Secretary of NFF. The Congress finally approved the appointment of Mr. Lawrence Katken as Acting General Secretary of NFF, pending the appointment of a substantive General Secretary. The recent development now puts to rest the recent threat by the world football ruling body (FIFA) to ban Nigeria if the crises in the NFF are not properly resolved before July 8. FIFA had warned the NFF that they could be banned from international football if they cannot prove their independence from the Nigerian government. “FIFA has reminded the NFF that all FIFA member associations have to manage their affairs independently and without influence of any third parties,” the statement on FIFA’s website read. The statement continued: “FIFA will not recognize any person or organ not elected in compliance with the NFF statutes. “An elective Congress has been duly convened by the NFF for August 26, 2014 and only decisions and persons elected then will be considered legitimate.” It could be recalled that Justice L.P Lot of a High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, had on Wednesday, restrained the former NFF boss, Maigari, his Executive Committee members and the Congress from carrying on with the running of football in the country following a suit. The Judge also mandated Sports Minister, Dr. Tamuno Danagogo, to appoint an acting Secretary General to run the affairs of Nigerian football pending the determination of the Motion on Notice before the court. Therefore, with the confirmation of Lawrence Katken as Acting NFF Secretary General by the NFF Congress yesterday, the coast is now clear for a credible election into the board of NFF to hold next month.
