Natura Artis Magistra 7th to 30th September 2014/ 12-7.30pm Nature is a whole, harsh and generous, and artists are necessarily its disciples, just as they themselves enrich it in their imaginings. We might share their flights, from the majestic fauna of the caves, the mysticism of the temples, through to its abstractions and the incarnations of concepts. Aesthetic expression cannot escape the demands of nature. It is at once both from nature that signs are born and through its matter that ideas come to life. There is no concept wit- hout substance, nor substance without concept. Each artist invents his intimacy with states both liquid, solid and gas. So many interactions that lend range to process, vocabulary, a visual language, that give meaning to the existential path of an approach.... The mineral, vegetable, ani- mal and ether are at once both the material and source of inspiration for the artist who brings them together. Natura artis magistra et vice versa; an expression of temperaments faced with the all- pervasiveness of nature. We may slip into these interstices, the inbetween of actions, ideas, ob- servations and transpositions. Perhaps we will find there spaces in which reside both possible exchanges and a reciprocity. Much like a living organism, Natura artis magistrate exists as a collection of propositions by artists that will grow, and find definition and depth, as its chapters unfold, both here and elsewhere.
