Nature Awareness 6/20/2014 - Green Poison-Dart Frog The green poison-dart frog belongs is brilliantly colored with vivid green and black patterned splotches and often a golden sheen. It belongs to a family of about 120 species that includes some of the most poisonous amphibians in the world. Like most of its relatives, it lives on the ground and uses the poison as a defense. Its bright colors show predators that it is toxic, allowing it to hop around the forest floor unmolested. Courtship among green poison-dart frog is interesting in that the female takes the lead. The females entice the males to mate by beating them on the back with their hind feet. Like most frogs, the green poison-dart frog holds the symbology for environmental sensitivity and frequent changes. Frogs go through many and frequent changes in their lives and this frog is no exception. Plus, all amphibians are extremely sensitive to their environments and the environmental changes that occur. Survival and adaptation is also a part of frog medicine, and adaptation is all about the potentials. The green poison-dart frog is more specialized though in carrying the energetic patterns of warnings and unique appearances, and both of those are fairly obvious traits given its vivid and original colorations that both warn predators and allow for it to stand out amid the forest floor.
