Nature and Bird Sighting in the Patagonia The Chilean Patagonia is one of the most impressive and beautiful sights of the whole world, the vast variety of flora and fauna attract hundreds of people every year that makes nature and bird sighting in the Patagonia an one of a kind experience. Trees and bushes that make up the green landscape that accompanies the journey though this indomitable place create the perfect atmosphere so that the visitors remain amazed due to such a beautiful sight. Many of the species of trees and bushes are endangered species and the most typical sort of the area are the coigüe and the araucaria, this last mentioned reaches a meter height after one century of growth. The araucaria originated in our country and Argentina, can be preferably found in sandy land, volcanic and humid ground, naturally patagonic grounds. Regarding the coigüe, it is a tree that always green and can be found greatly in the proximity of Aysén, although due to its characteristics it’s typical of the whole extreme southern Chile. In the case of the bushes, from the patagonic areas, the calafate (Magellan Barberry) is very common and can reach a maximum of two meters height. The bird sighting in the Patagonia can be impressing, only in this are there are five exclusive species, that do not inhabit in any other part of the world and they are naturally protected. Between the bigger ones is the condor; the grey, common or American Rhea; and the Emperor Penguin. While the smallest species are the Long-tailed Meadowlark, woodpeckers, Kingfishers, and the Nightingale. Within the long list of birds that inhabit the Patagonia is the ñandú clearly the one that stands out, because it’s the largest birds of the country and is not only in the Patagonia but also in the altiplano and they fly in groups of up to 30. Another beautiful bird that the Patagonia offers is the tiny Kingfisher, this bird lives in the entire south of Chile, specially near the rivers and lakes, from where it obtains its food, its striking colors is one of the characteristics that difference it from the other more common species. The water birds are also present in the Patagonia one of them is the Imperial Shag, it inhabits generally near the ports of Puerto Montt towards the south, with 75 cm height and a black back and white stomach the Imperial Shag dominates the province of Magallanes to Cape Horn.
