Nearly 4 years have passed since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan. Today, hundreds of thousands of people remain displaced, as radiation continues to contaminate the air, soil, and waterways of once thriving villages. In a photo series titled Shadowlands, photographer Robert Knoth worked with journalist Antoinette De Jong to capture the eerily serene remnants of the abandoned villages.
