Nearly Half a Million Employees on Strike in Jammu & Kashmir SRINAGAR: Work in all government offices was paralysed today on the first day of THE two-day ‘Lock Out’ call given by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) demanding implementation of their demands. Yesterday, police foiled ‘secretariat challo’ call by JCC. The employees are among other things demanding increase in the retirement age from present 58 years to 60 years, regularisation of daily wagers, casual labourers and contractuals, who have completed seven years in service and release of pay of employees of different departments and undertakings, who are without salaries for the past six months. The JCC has called for a two- day lock out from today, alleging that government had failed to implement the agreements reached in the past. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while addressing a meeting on September 8 has said, “We have total annual income of only Rs 6,500 crore from all sources while we have to pay Rs 13,500 crore salary to employees.” He said Rs 2,000 crore to pensioners and our electricity loss amounted to another Rs 2,000 crore annually.
