Nearly perfect weather -- 3 words that describe the Labor Day BBQ and Music Jam at the mountain cabin of Bob and Mary Ann. Add to that great food, BBQ and drinks, great company in a refreshing natural setting. Fresh air to breathe and at 5200 feet in altitude which is where the Mojave desert and Joshua Trees meets the Pinon and Juniper forest. Yeah, I went snake hunting but only saw two lizards. Here are a few pictures of the nearly annual event. A huge thunderstorm went up just to the West of us -- we could hear the thunder -- but we missed any rain this time. The national weather service even gave the cell I photographed an honorable mention. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA 730 PM PDT SUN SEP 1 2013 SHORT TERM (TONIGHT-WED)...EVENING UPDATE THUNDERSTORMS DID NOT DEVELOP QUITE AS WIDESPREAD AS EXPECTED TODAY...PROBABLY AS THE RESULT OF SOME MID-LEVEL CLOUDS MOVING IN LATE LAST NIGHT AND THIS MORNING...AND STICKING AROUND FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. HOWEVER...THERE WAS ONE FAIRLY STRONG CELL THAT DEVELOPED OVER THE EASTERN SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND SLOWLY MOVED NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE ANTELOPE VALLEY TO THE EAST OF PEARBLOSSOM AND LAKE LOS ANGELES. RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAINFALL WITH THIS STORM AND A TRAINED SPOTTER REPORTED A WIND GUST AROUND 50 MPH. OTHERWISE...MOST OF THE AFTERNOON BUILD-UPS PROBABLY DIDN`T RESULT IN MUCH MORE THAN A FEW SPRINKLES.
