Need help here-- This one goes out to my Theater friends- Particularly women, but anyone can answer (and please do - this is serious research friends). What FEMALE PROTAGONIST musical theater role would say really made an impact on your life. A role that you would take your daughter to - as an example of a great female character that really had a challenge and really overcame it. I am really looking for for a character with a challenge other then She did it for Love. Also trying to avoid children as a motivating factor - that is easy, most women would do anything for their children, but take children out of it, take love out of it and what would musical theater female protagonists move mountains for? What character/show tells the story of a woman that had a conflict requiring her to grow and she conquered her fear of that challenge. Something really motivational - not particularly feminist - just real and deep. And I guess I should clarify again, should be the heroine, not the antagonist Here are some ideas-- What did Elphaba want/what was she afraid of? What did Maria (sound of Music) want/what was she afraid of? What did Catherine (Pippin) want/what was she afraid of? How did they overcome their fears? Please dont tell me they did it for love... Please, there has to be something more that that driving strong female musical theater protagonists... isnt there? Please, I really would love a good response here. Thanks :) (Maybe Mulan... but she had to dress up like a man to do it...)
