Need to vent. Just saw a link to a blog where the writer stated that Robin Williams death was a choice, and I could not be angrier at this cold, insensitive, and ignorant thought. I wanted to stay tight-lipped about my own struggle with depression, but now I feel I must speak. Anyone who thinks that Robin Williams made a decision to end his life is treating this as if Williams was deciding between regular or unleaded gas, or between Coke or Pepsi, or etc etc. Nobody in their right mind actively chooses to end his/her life, and thats the key right there: Robin Williams was not in his right mind. Nobody who truly suffers from depression is ever in their right mind. Let me tell you how sinister depression is: depression constantly reminds you that you are incapable of making rational decisions, youre no good to anyone, and then heaps burning coals of guilt on top of that by saying get over yourself. The only thing more sinister than that is some ignorant jackoramus, someone who has never struggled with actual depression, making such an ill-informed statement such as the blog I read earlier. Im not posting a link to that blog because I dont believe in advertising that which I dislike. I would appreciate any commenters to this status also not linking to that blog. Its easy enough to find if youre that curious.
