Negomo 1 - I have a feeling that a large chunk of Zimbabweans are in favor of keeping Cecil John Rhodes remains on Matopos. I must confess that I am not amazed at all. For over 33 years, President Mugabe and others who share similar thoughts have held arms with this section of Zimbabweans to shield the grave of a British entrepreneur genius. Such is his high status in great zimbabwe, he remains a very significant person in our nation s troubled history. Such is our indigenous mind!Cecil John Rhodes is unrivaled as a businessman. He falls into the class of capitalist that build the fortresses of Western capitalism, an industrial system that build the West s economic dominance. It was his company, Central Search Association and the London-based Exploring Company Ltd that secured the royal charter, a document that gave it authority to colonize Zimbabwe. Our great ignorance of thinking that Britain colonized Zimbabwe when in fact it is Britain s capitalist who are themselves the colonizers. The honey bees of their era had one grand plan- under the eye of the Queen, they collected much in order to have much more for the future. It is only a scheme to survive by all means at their disposal.We have to speak in our language to understand that Europe survives its geographical accident by sucking energy from various sources. We agreed above that Zimbabwe became the property of Cecil Rhodes. I want to believe that you now agree that Cecil Rhodes falls into a peculiar type of capitalist, a capitalist who managed to control a large land mass of Africa under the scheme of his company. So, tell me the reason why most of us state that we were colonized by the British crown? How would the Crown, herself the British government afford independence to a nation she never colonized in the first place. Is this the reason why the issue of Cecil John Rhodes is so obscured in our eyes? If we are to understand these thoughts, we will be compelled to throw our eyes back to UDI. It is UDI that will carry us back to 1896 when this great capitalist-Rhodes, displayed his courage by riding unarmed and alone into the Matopo Hills to talk to compliant Matabele chiefs, successfully avoiding another war. Who is going to remove this deception? A deceived leadership that permitted Cecil to enter their sacred and harrowed place. By 1902 Rhodess health was failing and he died on 26 March at Muizenberg in the Cape Colony. He was buried at Worlds View in the Matopo Hills (near Bulawayo in Matabeleland).The arms of the Rhodes family date back to the 18th Century and are described in Burkes Armory of 1884 as displaying a lion between two acorns, the main colour of the arms being blue. In Rhodess personal arms the main colour used was changed to red and the acorns were replaced by two thistles on either side of the lion.
