The circulation of Holly Springs magical photos of her daughter Violet on social media has been amazing. I think at least 20 people have tagged me in a post or sent me the link. The Spring family is already part of the Lucky Fin Project and with these photos are helping other families with limb different children find the LFP. Additionally parents are also learning about symbrachydactyly for the first time and some questioning their childs diagnosis of ABS (amniotic band syndrome). Many of you know I have a HUGE pet peeve with people (doctors) blanket diagnosing a hand & upper limb difference as ABS when more often than not it is actually a result of symbrachydactyly. While a change in the diagnosis does not change your childs hand difference- for me, I felt it my parental right to have an accurate diagnosis for my daughter. I am delighted so many are enjoying Hollys photography, that many are getting exposed to perhaps a new or broader perspective what IS beautiful and therefor the next time they encounter a limb different child they bring acceptance and a smile not pity, judgment or fear. I am happy these fairytale like photos are leading to real life education about limb difference and bringing more to a community that supports and embraces them.
