Nell McElroy Stephens, 89, of Dallas, Texas entered her Heavenly Home at 12:15 AM on September 11, 2013. She was born to the late James H and Bess Madison McElroy, April 5, 1924 in Brooksville, Mississippi. Nell’s formative years were with her parents and two sisters in Baldwyn, Mississippi. Nell graduated from Baldwyn High School and from Blue Mountain College of Mississippi. She worked and lived in Jackson, Mississippi after college, where she was active in Parkway Baptist Church. During the winter of 1957, Nell moved to Dallas, Texas where she began her work in the Insurance industry. On February 9th, 1958, she joined the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. In 1959, she married the late William Allison Stephens. Nell and Allison’s spiritual calling was to encourage the Christian development of Students through the Student Ministry of First Dallas. Over a span of 54 years, Nell provided devoted service for several generations of students. Today, churches like First Dallas and countless others are enriched by the life impact of this faithful servant. Nell was predeceased by her husband, William Allison in 2001, and by her sister, Mary Love McElroy Berry. Nell is survived by her sister, Elizabeth McElroy Toomey of Brandon, Miss., and by four nieces and six nephews, along with several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended family of the Gash’s, McNamara’s and Ward’s. Further, she is survived by thousands of former students serving the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully in the USA and around the world.
