Nepali Sherpa dead, Swiss injured in avalanche Kathmandu, 3 Nov 2014: A Nepalese Sherpa was killed on the spot and a Swiss mountaineer sustained injuries as they were hit by an avalanche while trying to conquer Mt Amadablam in Nepal on Monday. The incident took place at 5.30 am near Camp III of the mountain, when 26-year-old Dendi Sherpa and Swiss national Urets Hans Rudo, 28, were heading towards the peak, a Tourism Ministry official said. The snowslide occurred at an altitude of around 6,000 metres. Situated in eastern Nepal, Mt Amadablams summit lies at an altitude of 6,812 metres. The deceased Dendi Sherpa was a native of Solukhmbu district in North-East Nepal. Rudo was airlifted to Kathmandu and is undergoing treatment at Vayodha Hospital, said Gyanendra Shrestha, a tourism ministry official. Dendis body was also airlifted to the Nepalese capital. PTI
