Netball Results 1 September, results 5 teams out of 7 in finals - Saturday 06th September 2014 What a day was had on Saturday 30th August 2014 – with games starting at 12 noon 5 out of 7 teams in the top four play offs, result 5 out of 7 teams now in the finals round. What a fantastic effort from the Kia Toa Netball club. Congratulations to all players and management teams. Way to go! The Kia Toa A1 team played Marist A1 winning by 4 goals. The emphasis was on retention of the ball and using the speed of the ball to beat the opposition. Making sure they got in front of the opposition was also key to beat this very determined Marist team. This winning result means that the A1 team meet Manukura Red again in the final. A must see game to watch. The Kia Toa Allsorts played COG Masters and this was a closely fought game with the Allsorts winning by 1 goal. The tension was there from the start of the whistle to the end. Congratulations to the Allsorts team who now go through to the finals against who you may ask….. The A2 team played Red Sox Relics again this week and from the start the A2 team wanted this game. They knew the game plan and stayed with it the entire game. Jess played an outstanding game taken every snippet of guidance and utilising it in the game. On defence the entire time pushing the ball high for her team mates. The outstanding performance from Jess and in turn the team had spectators on the edge of their seats and the end result a win by 4 brought tears to the eyes of the coach as they played out of their skins. This is another must see game as now the A2 team meets the Allsorts in a final where we are guaranteed a 1st and a 2nd! The Masters team played Marist A2 and ended up with a visit to the office to get clearer clarification on the result. The end result was a win to the Masters team by 1 goal. A closely fought game the entire 40 minutes showed that the new grade was great competition for the Masters team despite the injury wows. Chasers won by 11 goals in another of the semi-finals to make sure they also finished in the top two for the finals next week. Likewise Cougars had a win by 11 goals to ensure they also play in the finals next week. The Social team had a fantastic result winning 53 to 20 meaning that they are playing off for 5th & 6th in their grade. Finishing the season on a winning streak. Saturday 06th September will be a day of playoffs for firsts – so make it a date to support all the Kia Toa teams! Rugby, September 2014 President’s Grade Tournament 30th August, Bill Brown Park 10.30 am The last game report for 2014. This was the ninth year of this tournament. Kia Toa won the hosting rights from last year’s tournament by winning the karaoke competition. (Yes, you read that correctly) How quickly a year passes by. Last year’s host Ashhurst provided a hangi meal which raised the bar. Thankfully Leslie and Etuate volunteered to provide an island based sea food style meal. Kimbo, Laurie along with a few mates went for a dive and bought back a paua or two. Tee offered one of his pigs for the spit. What a difference a day makes, Friday morning this pig is snorting around the grass paddock, Saturday morning, it is spinning around in a spit. Kimbo played “My Kitchen Rules“ king and decided to keep an eye on the pig in the spit and ensure the beer at the Railway was cold. Back to the rugby…..… Eight Pressie teams entered the tournament, one of the biggest turn outs in the tournaments history. The grounds were covered in people, for a period we wondered whether we could cater to this large crowd. The under 8 junior team ran a sausage sizzle fundraiser. I hope that was worthwhile for them. Two pools of four teams were drawn. Our pool had Marist, Linton and Halcombe in it. We won our first game against Halcombe 12-5, got well beaten by Marist 5-26 and drew with Linton 12 all. Marist went on to won our pool and played Bunnythorpe in the final. Bunnythorpe were eventual winners 51 to 19. Winning for the fourth consecutive time. Back to the Railway……….. Six teams came back to the Railway for prize giving, the meal and karaoke. There were many compliments with the meal with the bar being raised once again. The lights went down and the Karaoke started. Confidence improved as consumption increased. All teams were supposed to sing two songs, and after careful consideration, it was decided, the karaoke winner was Linton. Thanks to everyone who helped in the background. As a club member, you can assist our sponsors by. 1) Supporting them in whatever way you can. 2) Tell them you are with Kia Toa RFC. And loving them to bits!!
