Never Waste An Injury What???? This quote is from the MoveSmart podcast (link below) and it got me thinking. Injuries or niggles which prevent us from reaching our full or desired potential are a complete pain! There is nothing good about them! Nothing! Or is there? When we have to change our habits because of an injury or pain we have a few options, of which Ive done all! 1) carry on regardless and risk further injury (aka now, 18 dislocations down the line and a generally messed up shoulder joint) 2) just give up and stop, using the injury as an excuse (me last month) 3) get really good at the things we hate, learn from the injury and come out stronger Never waste the opportunity to learn. Your injury may teach you new strengthening/rehab techniques, may force you to improve your mobility, or, like me, have no excuse not to improve single leg lower body stuff. The problem will heal and you will come out stronger. Unless you waste your opportunity. You then suffer repeat injuries or compensatory overload somewhere else. But this can be hard to identify and sometimes its difficult to know where to start. The benefits of osteopathy is that it looks at the whole body, so is able to find these compensations, rehabilitate the injured area, show you the areas you need to work on (improve) and hopefully reduce the chance of you doing it again.
