Never discuss religion or politics. Sounds simple enough. But those of us in the Lords church know that this rule cannot stand concerning religion. But what about politics? As long as no moral concern was involved, our pulpits are usually quiet on the subject. But in my experience, no gospel preacher ever kept silent when a moral concern was on the ballot. Why should it be different now? How can we be silent and it not be compromise? Think in these terms: what if a sizable number in the church where you preach were members of the Nazi Party or the Klan? Would you keep discretely quiet? Or would you boldly ring out righteousness? And yes, there can be Nazis who would not go along with the Party on everything, but a political movement has a guiding philosophy that is usually public. If that party is unbiblical, and it threatens souls, the church, and yes, the country, time to sound the warning, doncha think?
