Neville Tennis Coaches Receive Top Honors... MONROE - Two local high school tennis coaches will receive top honors at this month from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA). Kathryn Waters and Eric Herndon, both of Neville High School, will be awarded the 2013 LHSAA “Super Sport” Award for their efforts and management of the 2013 State Tennis Tournament. “Coach Herdon and I are honored to receive this prestigious award,” Waters said. “Although the final days of the tournament were difficult due to circumstances beyond our control (Mother Nature!), we managed to get all the matches played and the tournament completed. Of course this would not have been possible without the support of the LHSAA, parents and players, and most of all the many volunteers from our community.” According to the LHSAA, this award “recognizes individuals that have gone above and beyond for the betterment of high school sports in Louisiana.” Waters and Herndon will be presented with the award at the upcoming Coca-Cola LHSAA Principals Luncheon in Baton Rouge on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Waters is the Head Tennis Coach and an English Teacher. Herdon is the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Assistant Tennis Coach. “A special thanks to the CVB and the Community Tennis Association for their patience and support. We look forward to hosting this tournament the next two years,” Waters said. Over 650 participants competed in last year’s state tennis championships in Monroe during April. Monroe-West Monroe will be the host location for the tournament again in 2014 and 2015.
