New Case of H7N9 Bird Flu Confirmed in Beijing, China It has been confirmed that a Chinese poultry worker has contracted the H7N9 bird flu virus. It is the first case in the southern Guangdong province. In Mainland China, 134 cases have now been confirmed; 44 people have died of the deadly disease. Most cases of the virus have been recorded in eastern Chin; only one has been one reported outside the mainland, in Taiwan. Scientists confirmed the first possible case of person-to-person direct transmission. Many of those infected with the virus had been in direct contact with birds, mostly at poultry markets.
