New Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o injured on international duty…or maybe he retired At first, reports out of Europe were that striker Samuel Eto’o was injured on international duty. Now, French newspaper L’Equipe is reporting Eto’o has retired from international duty for “personal reasons.” Cameroon defeated Libya 1-0 Sunday to advance to the knockout stage of Africa’s World Cup qualifying. Eto’o was substituted out of the match in the 60th minute, replaced by Jacques Zoua. Whatever the case may be, it would seem Cameroon will be without their legendary striker and captain for their knockout stage match in October. If he were to miss any time in the Premier League, it would mean Fernando Torres and Demba Ba may be back to strike duties at Stamford Bridge, with Romelu Lukaku sent out on loan to Everton. Eto’o was brought in by Jose Mourinho from Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer. The 32-year-old won a famous treble with Internazionale, and played for five years at Barcelona. More updates on this post when they come through.
