New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) launched ‘zero waste’ - TopicsExpress

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) launched ‘zero waste’ project at Lodhi Gardens on Tuesday. An initiative very much in line with Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan! This project which I am monitoring since inception was first successfully tested by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) at the Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi, and later a field trial was done at India Gate, where 8 tons of daily organic waste was processed. Every installed unit have a daily capacity of up to 2 tons of organic waste. All the green waste can be put in a machine called ‘No Kooda’ from one end and the ‘bio-sticks fuel’ will be produced simultaneously. After Lodhi Gardens next in line are Talkatora Gardens and Nehru Park where these capacities will be installed very soon. Launching a fight against spitting, I on Friday started an anti-spitting drive taking along New Delhi Municipal Council and New Delhi Traders Association to spread the mesaage. As part of the drive, I painted pillars which were in a shabby condition and had betel stains. Also put up posters and distributed other publicity material to educate public in order to create awareness about spitting at public places and related hazards associated with spitting. The idea behind the drive is to emphasize the importance of public hygiene which needs to be inculcated at a level of self discipline. NDMC will extend this anti spitting along with a special drive to clean the markets. keeping in mind the longevity aspect of anti-spitting drive, the civic agency will deploy four marshals who will keep a check on littering and spitting and they are also empowered to fine the violators. Earlier in this week, interacted with Kendriya Bhandar Employess and RWAs of Alaknanda and Manadakini to understand their issues and concerns. This type of dialogue will continue to take place in the coming days as possible workable solutions are decided then and there only with consensus. So things are reduced to coordination and follow ups with concerned agencies given the agreed path to work upon. Earlier this week attended Women Entrepreneurs Conference - A need to Empowering Women Entrepreneurs. Exchanged thought provoking ideas on the subject with a view on practical aspect of implementing these ideas. Also was part of Urbanized Govt conference. There came statistics related to urbanization challanges, India about to face in next few decades. Theres no denying of the fact that in order to cater to the needs of rapidly increasing population in urban space there is no other way than to Urbanize Govt. In fact things have already started to move in this direction. Be its Infrastructure Creation, Smart Cities Vision, Digital Campaign, Swachh Bharat to name a few. These are the initiatives undertaken by PM Modi ji to accommodate the challenges and aspirations of New India. Yesterday I launched a Public Wi-Fi service in Connaught Place, New Delhi. This service will cover 4.5 sq kms of inner and outer circles with first 20 mins of browsing free of cost and after that Wi-Fi services are available at a very attractive recharge rates. The upkeep of this service will be managed by NDMC in partnership with Tata Docomo. Public Wi- Fi launch at Connaught Place is a step towards the progressive idea of Digital India. Attached are the photographs covering entire past week events ranging from Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to launch of Wi-Fi.
