New Farmer’s Market Wednesday mornings in Cumberland Green Local residents are invited to visit the new Localvore Farmer’s Market that will be set up at Cumberland Green on Wednesday mornings, starting May 21, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Intended to serving the food desert on the east side of Fountain, the market will be located on the corner of Jimmy Camp and Ohio. “See what local producers have to offer,” organizer Donna La Chey said. “Hillbilly Farms will offer eggs, meats, vegetables. Colorado Cabishan will have turquoise and other stones as well as silversmithed pieces. Visit the Elisa’s Creations table for your favorite team’s sports throws, scrubbies, and customized dish towels,” she added. “There will be a variety of jams, jellies and pickles as well as homemade breads. These are just a few of the members attending with local items.” La Chey said vendors hope local residents will stop by in the morning for coffee and grab something to eat, or walk the trails leading to the corner of Jimmy Camp and Ohio where you can sit and take a break and “pick up items to enhance your life in Fountain.” Snack and lunch items will be available. There will also be planned activities by local producers and Localvore Colorado CoOp members, including classes and presentations each Wednesday starting at 12:15. Cost is $5 per class. The schedule thus far includes: May 21 – Overview of eggs – Farm Fresh vs Grocery Store (1 dozen eggs fromHillbilly Farms CSA, value $5.50) May 28 – Fermenting Vegetables – Make a kit for your kitchen counter (Items for fermentation Airlock system from Hillbilly Farms, value $9) June 4 – Growing food for a balanced diet – How to plan a garden to meet vegetable requirements in our diet (Handouts from Hillbilly Farms) For information or if you would like to be a vendor please contact Donna La Chey at 382-8930.
